Between July 7-18, 37 French artists from the Parisian art gallery Rivoli 59 and 20 Romanian artists exhibiting at ARCUB – Hanul Gabroveni are collaborating in the group exhibition „Km 0 of Art Contemporary”.
The Romanian-French cultural exchange project was initiated by the Romanian-French artist George Bodocan and is organized by the 1001 Arts Association from Bucharest, in partnership with the Rivoli 59 Association, affiliated to the Paris City Hall, and with ARCUB – the Center Bucharest, an institution subordinated to the Bucharest City Hall.
The exhibition „Km 0 of Contemporary Art” presents over 60 works from various backgrounds, paintings, sculptures, collages or new media, which addresses current issues of society such as environmental protection, tolerance, feminism, solidarity and peace. If the works of French artists propose to the Bucharest public an incursion into the diversity of the art of contemporary Europeans through an explosion of rhythm and colour, light and movement, the works of artists Romanians resume the theme of Artistic Bestiary, adapted to 2022.
The artistic dialogue will end on September 2-19, 2022, by moving the exhibition „Km 0 of Contemporary Art” by 35 Romanian artists in the Rivoli 59 gallery in Paris. A series of cooperative cultural activities accompany the collections in two European cities: artistic residencies both for French artists in Bucharest and for Romanian artists in Paris, as well as the realization of a mural painting in Bucharest, near the French Embassy in Romania, and a mural in Paris.
The project’s motivations take into account the condition of the young Romanian artist, marked by financial shortcomings and opportunities in a society characterized by numerous social disorders. In this context, eight well-known artists will be with the young artists as a plea for mentoring and solidarity artistic.
The lack of interest of the local public in the phenomenon of contemporary art makes many artistsCristian Cojanu, manager cultural, 1001 Arts.
valuable to abandon their artistic career before the age of 30.
In this context, the Romanian-French cultural exchange is necessary for both Romanian artists and the public, who appreciate contemporary art but often consider it inaccessible. Too little promoted, highly coded, and hidden through galleries where only a few initiates enter, the message of this cultural exchange is that young artists, no matter where they profess, need the public’s encouragement.
The exhibition „Km 0 of Contemporary Art” launch event takes place on July 7, 2022, starting at 18.00, at ARCUB – Hanul Gabroveni from Lipscani street no. 84-90.
