Bucharest will host the 2028 UEFA Europa League Final, bringing one of European football’s most important matches back to the Romanian capital.
The UEFA Executive Committee officially selected Bucharest and the National Arena to host the 2028 final. The Romanian Football Federation announced the decision on 15 September 2026.
The exact match date, participating teams, and ticketing information will be announced later.
UEFA Europa League Final Returns to Bucharest
The 2028 UEFA Europa League Final will mark the return of a major European club final to Bucharest after 16 years.
The National Arena previously hosted the 2012 UEFA Europa League Final, when Atlético de Madrid defeated Athletic Club 3–0. That match was the first UEFA club competition final ever organised in Romania.
Since then, the stadium has hosted several major international football events, including matches during UEFA EURO 2020 and the UEFA European Under-21 Championship in 2023.
National Arena Selected for the 2028 Final
Romania submitted its official bid to host the UEFA Europa League final in either 2028 or 2029. The Romanian Football Federation, the Romanian Government, and Bucharest City Hall supported the project.
After UEFA evaluated the candidate venues, it selected the National Arena for the 2028 edition. Belgrade will host the competition’s final in 2029.
Preparations for the Bucharest final will be coordinated with UEFA and are expected to include stadium improvements and the infrastructure required for supporters, teams, officials and international media.
A Major International Event for Bucharest
The UEFA Europa League Final is expected to attract football supporters from across Europe, as well as international media, sponsors and official delegations.
For Bucharest, the event represents another opportunity to demonstrate its capacity to host large international competitions. Visitors travelling for the final will also be able to discover the city’s historic landmarks, restaurants, nightlife and cultural attractions.
The National Arena is located in eastern Bucharest, near Alexandru Ioan Cuza Park, and can be reached using the city’s public transport network. Special transport arrangements and dedicated routes for supporters are expected to be announced closer to the match.
Tickets for the 2028 UEFA Europa League Final
Tickets are not yet available. UEFA will announce the official sales procedure, ticket categories and application periods closer to the event.
Supporters should purchase tickets exclusively through UEFA’s official platforms or authorised channels. Information concerning fan zones, stadium access, transport and security measures will also be published before the final.
