African storytelling, drum workshops, traditional games and a children’s fashion showcase come together in Bucharest on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at the AU MBOA Afro Kidz Festival. Taking place at Youth by FNT The Youth, the event invites children and parents to spend an afternoon discovering African heritage through play, music, food and creativity.
Under the theme “Our Roots, Their Tomorrow,” the festival puts children at the heart of a celebration of culture and community. Activities run from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with free admission for children. The Embassy of the Democratic Republic of Congo in Bucharest supports the event as part of its partner lineup.
African Stories, Drum Workshops and Traditional Games

The programme introduces young visitors to African cultural traditions through activities they can take part in themselves. Interactive storytelling and oral traditions bring stories into the afternoon, alongside folklore and introductory language activities. Traditional African games offer another way for children and parents to join in and discover something together.
Music and movement are also part of the experience, with dance and drum workshops giving families the chance to participate. Art and creative activities add to a programme built around curiosity, expression and shared experiences.
For families looking for things to do in Bucharest with children, the festival brings several activities into a single afternoon, from listening to stories to exploring rhythm and trying traditional games.
Food, Fashion and Hair Braiding
African gastronomy forms another part of the festival, alongside a kids’ fashion showcase and traditional hair braiding. These activities broaden the celebration beyond music and storytelling, introducing visitors to cultural expression through food, clothing and hairstyling.
The theme “Our Roots, Their Tomorrow” connects the programme’s different elements: sharing heritage with younger generations while creating opportunities for families and communities to meet. Children, parents and friends are all invited to take part.
