The National Museum of the Romanian Peasant will host the 10th Peasant Museum Days, which will feature new exhibitions, a festival of tales from the Via Transilvanica, a hiking trail, book launches, workshops, an icon fair, and movie screenings.
The Peasant Museum and the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History in Chisinau, with the assistance of the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Bucharest, are opening the exhibition of Romanian folk rugs titled “Weaving the World” at the “Tancred Banateanu” Hall on September 8, the first day of the event. This exhibition brings together some of the most beautiful rugs from the collections of the two national institutions.
On the first day, Associate Prof. Varvara Buzila, the head of the ethnology department at the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History, will launch her book, “Dress Rhetoric: the top sleeve embroidery folk blouse (Capitalizing on the collections of the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History).”
The exhibition “Architecture and traditional building materials,” organized through the same partnership, will run from September 8 to October 7 in the museum’s outdoor gallery on Ion Mihalache Boulevard. It will feature seven pieces created by architecture students from the academic years 2020–2022, who worked with assistant professor and architect Laura-Andreea Dobrescu to explore the topic of traditional building materials.
The Via Transilvanica Storytelling Festival, which runs from September 9 to 11, enables visitors to explore Romania from Putna in the north to Drobeta-Turnu Severin in the southwest. The festival coincides with the museum’s celebration of Saturday’s European Heritage Days.
The Straw Art – Straw Pictures workshop will be held on September 12 and 13 in the Peasant Museum’s courtyard in collaboration with the Center for Architectural and Urban Studies of the “Ion Mincu” University of Architecture and Urbanism.
On September 13, the Media Hall will host the launch conference for the “Beloved Archive” project, which is being funded by EEA Grants 2014–2021 through the RO-CULTURA Program. On September 14, the Aquarium Hall will host the opening of Vasile Marin’s exhibition of crosses made in Brebu, Prahova County. The collection complements the Iconographers and Cross-makers’ Fair, scheduled for September 16 – 18.
