Century-Old Buildings in Bucharest To Be Consolidated

Eighty buildings in Bucharest – residential or public buildings, historical monuments or apartment blocks almost 100 years old – will be consolidated with non-reimbursable funds obtained from national and European sources and money from the local budget. The Municipality Mayor announced the news on social media.

This announcement follows another similar one, and the City Hall will consolidate Solacolu Inn on Calea Mosilor, one of the most emblematic buildings from the beginning of the 20th century.

According to the Mayor, these are 21 buildings selected for financing under the National Program for the Consolidation of Buildings with High Seismic Risk – the value of the projects being EUR 100 million and another 17 projects financed through the Recovery and Resilience Plan, for EUR 56 million.

Bucharest monuments are among the most admired attractions by international tourists in Romania’s Capital, but some need immediate repair and consolidation. Also, the famous historical buildings in Bucharest, known as “The Little Paris,” must be consolidated, as most are from the beginning of the last century.

According to the cited source, the historical monuments consolidated with these funds are the Gheorghe Tattarescu Memorial Museum, the Bulandra Theater and the Very Small Theater, and the Rosenthal Block or Club A.

The Municipal Administration for the Consolidation of Buildings at Seismic Risk will consolidate another 42 buildings from the local budget.

This sort of investment in local attractions will make Bucharest more attractive to visitors and safer. It is common knowledge that Bucharest is one of the riskiest European Capitals in terms of potential damage and toll following earthquakes. Thus, there is an urgent need to invest in consolidating Bucharest, and this should be done as soon as possible.
