Bucharest residents and international tourists travelling to Romania’s capital city celebrate Christmas with five days of live concerts at the Bucharest Christmas Market. Between December 22 and 26, famous local singers, such as Mircea Baniciu, 2 Gents, Paula Seling, Iana Novac, Narcisa Suciu and Nicu Alifantis are just a few of the artists who will take the stage in Piaţa Constituţiei for a series of festive concerts of carols and Christmas music.
The concerts begin on Thursday evening, December 22, when the public has the opportunity to hear how the songs of the winter holidays sounded in interwar Bucharest in the concert of Miruna Ionescu, accompanied by the talented violinist Valentin Albeșteanu. The famous singer-songwriter, founding member of the band Pasărea Colibri and former soloist of the band Phoenix, Mircea Baniciu completes the evening’s artistic program with folk-style winter songs.
A moment full of grace and sensitivity is brought to the stage of the Fair on Friday, December 23, by the artist Maria Coman, who will give a recital of carols and Byzantine music with The Choir. On the same evening, Ciprian Rogojan, founder of the 2 Vibes Symphony project and the Sistem band, and Doru Todoruţ, the soloist of the DeepCentral band, bring cult music closer to the public in a special 2 Gents concert in which representative songs from various genres and periods are re-orchestrated to offer new sound experiences.
On the eve of Christmas Eve, Paula Seling brings the joy and peace of mind of Christmas to Constitution Square with a carol concert. One of Romania’s best voices, winner of the Golden Stag Trophy in 2002 and the artist who represented Romania at two editions of the Eurovision contest, Paula Seling will perform on December 24 soulful songs, full of emotion, but also the most recent his single, released just a few days ago, titled „Cel most beautiful carol.”
Called the „golden voice from over the Prut”, Iana Novac prepared a musical gift for the audience present on Saturday evening at the Bucharest Christmas Fair. On December 24, pop-opera soprano Iana Novac completes the atmosphere of the winter holidays with original Christmas songs, carols and beloved winter songs.
On the first day of Christmas, Bucharest residents are invited to discover the harmony and peace of Christmas together with their loved ones in a festive concert full of emotional charge supported by a renowned voice of Romanian carolers, Narcisa Suciu. Known for her two Christmas albums, the folk artist sings on December 25 rare popular carols collected from the monasteries of Maramureş, ritual songs with a strong emotional charge, but also folk processing and beloved titles, such as „Amu-i Sara de Crăciun”, „Carol of the deer”, „What have you seen shepherds”.
Nicu Alifantis will sing carols for us on December 26 in a concert that concludes this year’s edition of the Bucharest Christmas Fair 2022. Musician, poet and actor loved by the public equally in all poses, one of the most important members of the Flacăra Cenacl, the artist folk brings its beautiful „Winter Songs” to the Constitution Square, from the famous song „Ajunul din copilăria” to „Moşul Iene”, „Baba Dochia”, „Snow Wings” or „Winter Mirage”.
Choral carols complement the festive atmosphere at the Bucharest Christmas Market, brass band music and popular music performed by children’s choirs, vocal groups, ensembles of instrumentalists and popular music performers in the concerts from December 22-26.
Bucharest Christmas Market 2022 joins the global action „Lights for Ukraine” by symbolically closing the illuminated tree in Constitution Square on the evening of December 21, between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., and for one minute on Christmas Eve, on December 24, from at 19.00. The action is launched internationally by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine in partnership with the United24 platform to draw attention to the Ukraine situation, particularly the ongoing widespread disruptions. At the local level, „Lights for Europe” is implemented by the Embassy of Ukraine in Romania with the support of the Bucharest City Hall.
Apart from the artistic program, the Bucharest Christmas Fair expects its visitors to take full advantage of the Christmas mini-vacation with rides in the panoramic wheel and carousel, walks on the ice at the ice rink, seasonal tastings and souvenirs made by artisans from all corners of the country or prepared culinary delicacies like in childhood.
Among the most anticipated moments of the Fair, the meetings with Santa Claus in Constitution Square continue daily in the Christmas tree area. Santa Claus and his elves are waiting for the little ones on Thursday, December 22, between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m., and on Friday, December 23, and Saturday, December 24, between 12 p.m. and 9 p.m.
The Bucharest Christmas market opens daily until December 26. Between December 21-23 and on December 25, between 12:00 and 23:00, and on December 24 and 26, between 10:00 and 23:00.
