A call for social distancing and restrictions on travel have left some of Europe’s cities looking deserted. The famous #stayhome has become more than a simple hashtag for Romanians, a fact that can be seen from the silence that seems to have spread even on the streets of Bucharest in recent days as measures to control the spread of COVID-19. The fear of the coronavirus and the military interdictions drove the people of Bucharest away from the subway and buses. Most of the inhabitants of the Capital, who are forced to leave home, use their personal cars. Romania has adopted strict rules for when people are allowed out of their homes, requiring signed statements detailing the purpose and destinations, which must be presented to police or military when asked, along with ID cards.
Still, even so, the Romanian capital city has its beauty, even if the streets are empty. This lockdown policy allowed us to capture some very nice pictures on the deserted streets of Bucharest.
Here are some of them.
