International Francophonie Day is celebrated on Wednesday in Bucharest’s museums and theatres.
On Wednesday, International Francophonie Day, several cultural institutions in Bucharest will host shows, recitals, and presentations.
The National Museum of Romanian Literature will organize a presentation of Romanian writers who are deeply connected with the French cultural world and have translated or written their works in French. On March 20, a debate will be dedicated to the writer Alexandru Macedonski, 170 years after his birth. The influence of French symbolism on Macedonski’s work will be presented during the event.
Also, on Thursday, at 1:45 p.m., students from L’Ecole Française Internationale de Bucarest will participate in a guided tour in French presented by Stéphan Artaud from the National Museum of Romanian Literature. There will be a clue hunt and a creative writing workshop in French.
On Friday and Monday, Stéphan Artaud will present a conference on French cultural heritage at L’Ecole Française Internationale de Bucarest.
The „Nottara” theater prepared a special edition of the program „Dialogues without a mask”, with Vasile Şirli as a guest, the topic of the discussion being „From Bucharest to Disneyland. A journey, a road, a story”. Vasile Şirli is a Romanian who conquered France. A Romanian and French citizen, Şirli was born in a village in Banat and became one of the most loved composers in France. He is a Romanian who, for 30 years, was director of the Music Department at Disneyland Paris.
Municipal Theater „L.S. Bulandra” will mark the celebration of International Francophonie Day through a series of posts on the Facebook and Instagram page, through which it will present the productions with authors of French origin made on the stage of the Bulandra Theater in the last decades, accompanied by fragments of video recordings from the performances Also, a premiere interview will be presented with Georges Contamin, the author of the play Asylum of Death, the latest French-language show entered into the repertoire of the Bulandra Theatre.
The House of Arts „Dinu Lipatti” is organizing the 8th Edition of the „I Love Lipatti” Festival between March 19 and 23, 2024. During the Festival, Francophonie Day will be marked by an Extraordinary Recital performed by a special guest from France, the pianist Dimitri Malignan. The recital is also dedicated to the great pianist and composer Dinu Lipatti, a descendant of the French musical school who completed his studies in Paris.
Teatrul Mic – Small Theater will mark Francophonie Day with the show „Tartuffe de Moliere,” directed by Gelu Colceag, which will take place on Saturday, March 23, from 7 p.m., at Sala Luceafărul.
The Constantin Tănase Theater will mark Francophonie Day with the performance „Some Sensations…” by Georges Feydeau, scheduled for the end of the month. The show is a savoury comedy from the Belle Epoque period based on the play „The Pony’s Mother Died” by the famous French playwright Georges Feydeau.
