Bucharest will become the smartest city in the world at the end of July: Mensa’s biggest European event, the High IQ Society, will take place in Romania’s Capital between July 31 and August 4.
The event takes place at Novotel, one of the famous Bucharest Hotels, and it is exclusively reserved for Mensa attendees.
Mensa’s EMAG24 Bucharest: Forum of Cultures
During the five days of the event, more than 600 MENSA members from 44 countries will have the opportunity to exchange experiences and discover Romanian culture. Bucharest will also host the first meeting of the new management of Mensa Internazionale.
More than 600 Mensa members worldwide will arrive in the Romanian capital to participate in EMAG24, the most important European event in the Mensa calendar.
The theme of this edition is Forum of Cultures. Under this motto, the event will bring together Mensans worldwide, who will share professional experiences from various fields in more than 50 lectures and seminars. Topics such as the communication of complex content through AI, the current challenges of virologists, and addressing the needs of people with autism will be discussed. Forum of Cultures is also an invitation to discover Romania, which is unique because of its cultural influences and diverse experiences.
EMAG (European Mensas Annual Gathering) is an annual conference that lasts several days and includes lectures, workshops and other activities. The event aims to allow participants to meet, learn and have fun. Each year, a different European Mensa organization is chosen to host and organize EMAG24. The most recent editions were held in Rotterdam (2023), Strasbourg (2022) and Brno (2021). The first edition of EMAG took place in 2008 in Koln, Germany.
Mensa Romania is a young but very active community. With my colleagues on the Executive Committee, I look forward to listening to the lectures, tasting the food and beer, participating in everything you have prepared for us and learning new things about your country. Not necessarily in that order.
Eivind Olsen, the director of development for Mensa International

Over the last few years, we have sought to reach out to the international Mensa community. We have to learn from their enthusiasm, from the curiosity and determination with which they work to advance intelligence research. Through our foundations, we help dozens of bright young people yearly with grants and scholarships that pave the way for their professional lives. We are honoured by the great interest of the Mensans, among whom are old friends whom we are happy to see again, and colleagues from the country and abroad for whom EMAG24 is an extraordinary opportunity to discover our community.
Andy Jugănaru, president of Mensa Romania
Mensa was founded in 1946 in Oxford, UK, to identify and connect people with high IQs. Currently, Mensa International has more than 133,000 members in 100 countries worldwide.
Mensa Romania was founded in 1991 with over 600 members from all fields and social categories.
Access to the organization is based on an intelligence test that allows participants to determine whether they are among the top 2% of the most intelligent people on the planet. The organization’s mission is to identify these people and create a bridge between them.
