More than 90 of the most relevant Romanian artists of the moment will be exhibited, from young presences who challenge the status quo through experiment and resistance to artists who started their activity in the 70s and contributed to the foundation of the scene of art from Romania.
The Ivan Gallery (Bucharest) will present pieces of historical importance for its own program and, by extension, for the Romanian artistic scene, among them signed by Florina Coulin, Geta Brătescu, Ion Grigorescu, Paul Neagu, Horia Bernea and Simona Runcan.
The Relicvar Gallery (Cluj-Napoca) has prepared a group presentation that includes works by artists from different generations who share an attachment to tradition and craftsmanship, including Vasile Gorduz, Silvia Radu and Dan Isailă.
With works by artists Marieta Chirulescu, Ion Grigorescu, Dan Perjovschi and the collective IRWIN, Gregor Podnar (Vienna) will present a compelling artistic exchange that will turn to the recent past to understand the flow of art better today.
On May 17 and 18, from 18:00 and 17:00, respectively, there will be two discussions with relevant guests from the Romanian artistic area. First, gallerist Catinca Tăbăcaru will discuss patronage in art with Tudor Grecu, the collector. The second discussion is about Romania’s participation in the Venice Biennale. Mihnea Mircan (curator in 2007), Ciprian Mureșan (artist in 2009, curator in 2024), Mihai Pop (commissioner in 2007, curator in 2015, production director in 2019) and Magda Radu (curator in 2017) will participate.
Among the novelties of this edition is the RAD Design exhibition, which brings to the fore design objects in a limited series (collectible design).
With a strong focus on international curatorial practices, RAD 2024 brings together more than 30 curators from 10 countries in a summit format offering public and industry-focused events. RAD Curatorial will culminate for the public on May 18, from 15:00, with a TED Talk-style format that will bring seven curators on stage to share their ideas under two thematic headings: Memory and Otherness.
More than 30 works will be exhibited in the Sculpture Park. Access here will be free for one month (May 9 – June 9).
