Sound District Floreasca 2026: September 11 – 12, Floreasca, Bucharest

Sound District Floreasca transforms one of Bucharest’s best-known residential neighbourhoods into an open-air cultural district on September 11 and 12, 2026. The first edition of the festival brings classical music, opera, jazz, alternative rock and electronic music to Verdi Park and the surrounding streets.

More than 400 artists will take part in over 40 concerts and musical performances. Admission to all festival activities is free.

Classical Music Moves into the Streets of Floreasca

    Old violin

Sound District was inspired by the streets of Floreasca that carry the names of major European composers. During the festival, these streets become stages and cultural areas with their own musical identity.

Giuseppe Verdi Street represents the Italian district, Georges Bizet Street the French district, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Street the Austrian district. Performances are also scheduled on Johann Strauss, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Johann Sebastian Bach and Frédéric Chopin streets.

The festival connects the history of these composers with contemporary urban culture, bringing music outside traditional concert halls and into the neighbourhood.

Sound District Floreasca Opening: September 11

The official opening takes place in Verdi Park on Friday, September 11.

The evening begins at 19:00 with a performance by the Ion Dacian National Operetta and Musical Theatre.

At 20:30, Robin and the Backstabbers perform a special symphonic concert conducted by Mircea Pădurariu. The collaboration brings the band’s alternative-rock sound together with orchestral arrangements created for the opening night.

    Sound District Programme: September 12

The main festival day begins at 10:00 in Verdi Park with The Carnival of the Animals, performed by the orchestra of the George Enescu National College of Music.

The programme in the park continues with Totonne, Barter, violinists Alexandru Tomescu and Ștefania Turcu, Leyah and a closing concert by the Bucharest National Opera.

Several stages will operate simultaneously on the surrounding streets.

Johann Strauss Street hosts ballet, harp and cello recitals, the Symphactory Strings Quartet and performers from the Ion Dacian National Operetta and Musical Theatre.

Rachmaninoff Street becomes a jazz area, with Irina Sârbu, the Romanesque Quartet and Jazz Roots Bucharest.

Johann Sebastian Bach Street presents solo cello performances, chamber music and Muse Quartet, while the two stages on Georges Bizet Street bring together musical marionettes, brass music, guitar recitals, violin performances and Sunset Classics: From Baroque to Rock.

Chopin Street hosts young musicians, ballet performances and piano recitals. Mozart Street welcomes the Bucharest Wind Ensemble, Atheneum Trio, vocal and instrumental performances and the Anatoly Vocal Quintet.

On Giuseppe Verdi Street, visitors can hear solo cello, children’s and youth choirs, opera voices, GOLAN and the SoNoRo Strings Orchestra.

At 19:30, Barbarossa Samba Group leads processions from the neighbourhood stages towards Verdi Park.

From Opera and Classical Music to Rock, Jazz and Electronic Sound

    Violin and play

The Sound District line-up includes the Bucharest National Opera, violinist Alexandru Tomescu, the SoNoRo Strings Orchestra, Irina Sârbu, GOLAN, Robin and the Backstabbers and the Ion Dacian National Operetta and Musical Theatre.

The programme combines opera, operetta, chamber music and classical recitals with jazz, alternative rock and electronic music. The format allows visitors to move freely between stages and discover different performances while exploring the streets of Floreasca.

    Workshops, Interactive Installations and Gastronomy

Sound District Floreasca includes more than concerts. Over 30 educational workshops explore music, history and sustainability, while visual and interactive installations turn the neighbourhood into a cultural route.

The festival also includes gastronomic areas inspired by Italian, French, Austrian and German cuisine, along with themed decorations connected to the identity of each district.

The activities are designed for different generations, including families with children, young audiences and visitors who may be discovering classical music for the first time.
