The Top 100 Traditional Food Cities for 2021 has been released by Taste Atlas. This year, Bucharest comes in at number seven, which should be plenty to entice international foodies to visit the city.
The opinions of culinary reviewers and tourist evaluations were utilized as the criterion for this complete rating. Mexico City takes the top spot, with Bangkok and Naples coming in second and third, respectively.
Bucharest reached 7th place in the top 10 traditional food cities, after Paris and before other famous cities like Rome, Madrid or Barcelona.
It seems that tourists are delighted with our traditional food. You have a lot of restaurants where you can serve authentic food. 'Sarmale,' which is minced meat (usually pork, but also beef, sheep, poultry, or even fish), mixed with rice and other ingredients, wrapped in rolled cabbage leaves, is one of the most popular dishes among foreign visitors, as is the 'bean soup with smoked ham hock,' and the 'pork feast,' especially during the winter holidays.
Mititei is a famous Romanian dish preferred by many of our compatriots and tourists.
Mititei comprises grilled ground meat rolls seasoned with thyme, anise, black pepper, and garlic and produced from a blend of lamb, hog, and beef.
Mititei translates to "little ones" in English, alluding to the diminutive size of these skinless sausages.
Barbecuing the meat is the underlying method to prepare mititei. It's no wonder that the dish is a mainstay of Romanian outdoor cuisine and roadside eateries. According to one common myth, mititei were developed when a famous Bucharesti restaurant ran out of casings, and the chefs had to make sausage to serve the ravenous patrons.
Mititei is best served with a side of french fries, yellow mustard, and a cool beverage.
The position in the Taste Atlas Awards of 2021 honours the city and we are proud to be among the top 10 best traditional food cities this year.
