The ARCUB Jazz Live season continues with a new concert on March 27, 2024, from 7 p.m., Urban Gypsy & Emil Bîzgă, on the Great Hall – ARCUB stage.
The well-known American trumpeter of Romanian origin, Emil Bîzgă brings to the ARCUB stage, together with Ciprian Parghel (bass), Albert Tajti (piano) and Claudiu Purcărin (drums), a unique musical experience – Urban Gypsy, a fusion between the European avant-garde, elements of jazz, pop, R&B and Gypsy music.
Launched in October 2023, during the Timișoara Jazz Festival, the Urban Gypsy project created a special and exotic atmosphere through cosmopolitan sounds and was presented on jazz stages throughout the country, enjoying the public’s appreciation. The Urban Gypsy concert, supported by some of the most acclaimed artists of genre music, will offer the audience a memorable musical experience with unique sounds and rhythms of contemporary jazz fusion, inviting music lovers to enjoy the universal language of music.
In these tumultuous times, the Urban Gypsy & Emil Bîzgă project is intended for a cosmopolitan audience, and multiculturalism is a constant in the Romanian space. After the success in Vama Veche and Timișoara, we will be present in the Capital at ARCUB – Hanul Gabroveni. With my guests, Albert Tajti – piano, Ciprian Parghel – bass and Claudiu Purcărin – drums, I invite you to a foray into modernity.

About Emil Bîzga
Emil Bîzga (trumpet) The American trumpeter of Romanian origin Emil Bîzgă was born in 1971, in Iaşi, in a family of musicians. He attended the Conservatory in Bucharest, where he also discovered his passion for jazz. He studied classical trumpet in Malmö, Sweden, and jazz trumpet in Hanover, Germany, and Rutgers University in New Jersey. He collaborated with renowned artists such as Håkan Hardenberger, Wynton Marsalis, Ray Charles, Jimmy Cobb, Johnny Răducanu, Marius Popp, and Mircea Tiberian. He performed with the Niedersachsen Jazz Orchestra, Radio Romania Big Band, Hanover Opera, Vladimir Cosma, and Tony Bennett.
He participated in numerous festivals in the country or abroad, such as the „Richard Oschanitzky” Jazz Festival (Iasi), the Patras Jazz Festival (Greece), the ZeitTon Festival (Austria), the Miles Davis Festival (Poland) the Montreux Jazz Festival (Switzerland). Ciprian Parghel (bass) The son of the late jazz soloist Anca Parghel, Ciprian Parghel continued the family’s musical traditions and stood out on the genre music scene as a talented instrumentalist.

He has performed on jazz stages in Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands as a trio, quartet, or quintet, as well as in the country. He has been involved in numerous musical projects with established musicians, such as: „Never Let Me Go,” a reinterpretation of some pieces from the standard jazz repertoire with Teodora Spînu (vocals), Daniel Csikos (piano); „Acts of Service”, within the Irina Sârbu Band (together with Irina Sârbu – vocals, Puiu Pascu – piano, and Tudor Parghel – drums), and collaborated with artists such as Titi Herescu, Ruxandra Zamfir. Albert Tajti (piano) One of the most representative jazz pianists in Romania, Albert Tajti studied musical composition at the „Gheorghe Dima” Academy of Music in Cluj, then attended the ICon Arts courses for improvement in accompaniment and soloism under the guidance of Professor Mircea Tiberian. He participated in meaningful projects and collaborated with outstanding jazz soloists and instrumentalists since 2011, among whom we mention Luiza Zan, Nadia Trohin, Ana Cristina Leonte, Nicolas Simion, Alex Man, Sorin Romanescu, Michael Acker, Vlad Popescu. Among the events to which he was invited, we mention the Alba Jazz Festival, Jazz Tm, DobroJazz, EUROPA Fest, the Artist in Residence (ARCUB) season, Csiki Jazz.
The 2023 edition of the Bucharest Jazz Festival recorded his participation in a double capacity: in the Norzeatic & Quinta Spartă (Broken Royal Flush) formula, with an explosive concert, combining hip-hop, jazz and electronic music, but also in the Tajnic band, with spontaneous musical constructions that combined funk, electronic, classic and contemporary elements. Claudiu Purcărin (drums) The esteemed drummer Claudiu Purcărin was born in 1979 in Caransebeș and grew up in Cluj-Napoca. Over time, he was involved and collaborated with numerous projects and musical bands, including Gaio Pro Jazz Napocensis, Mihai Porcisanu Quartet, and Hara. From March 2009 he joined the band Nightlosers, with whom he performed concerts in Toronto, New York, Stockholm, Paris, Santiago de Compostela, Budapest, Bratislava. He shared the stage with numerous blues and jazz artists and bands, including shoulders Johnny Răducanu, Mihai Iordache, Harry Tavitian, Pedro Negrescu, Sorin Romanescu, Puiu Pascu, Alex Man.
