On October 11, 2025, Romanian fans will have the rare chance to witness Opeth live in Bucharest, as the band takes the stage at Laminor Arena.
For more than three decades, Opeth has stood as one of the most innovative and genre-defying bands in modern metal. With roots in Stockholm’s early ’90s death metal scene, they quickly evolved into pioneers of progressive metal, weaving together elements of jazz, folk, classic rock, and psychedelia into their dense, cinematic sound.
This highly anticipated show is part of a broader European tour promoting their 2024 album, The Last Will and Testament. The release has been hailed as a return to form, merging their heavier, growl-infused roots with the rich instrumentation and progressive flair that has defined their last decade of work.
Opeth – A Band with Deep Musical Roots
Founded in 1990 by vocalist and guitarist Mikael Åkerfeldt, Opeth began as a death metal act, but by the late 1990s, their vision had grown far beyond the genre’s traditional boundaries. Albums like Still Life (1999), Blackwater Park (2001), and Ghost Reveries (2005) are now considered modern classics, praised for their intricate arrangements, philosophical lyrics, and dynamic interplay between brutality and beauty.
Their stylistic shift became more pronounced with Heritage (2011), Pale Communion (2014), and Sorceress (2016), where clean vocals and vintage instrumentation became the norm. While some fans missed the growls, others welcomed Opeth’s fearless artistic evolution. In 2019, the bilingual release In Cauda Venenum further showcased their ambition and depth.
With The Last Will and Testament, however, the band revisits their heavier sound. Åkerfeldt has described it as “a musical will to be remembered by” – emotionally charged, technically sophisticated, and spiritually intense. The return of growled vocals, alongside lush orchestration and labyrinthine compositions, has been met with widespread acclaim, both from critics and longtime fans.
