The Bookfest International Book Fair, Romania’s largest book fair, returns to the capital’s cultural events landscape. More than 100,000 people are expected to attend this year’s Bookfest, which takes place from June 3 to June 7 at the Romexpo Exhibition Complex in Bucharest. The event takes place at Romexpo, Pavilion B2, and brings together 158 exhibitors and 455 events for readers, authors, publishers, and cultural professionals.
Visitors can explore tens of thousands of titles, book launches, debates, roundtables, children’s events, film screenings, and interactive cultural moments throughout the five-day fair. Access to Bookfest 2026 is free, and the visiting schedule is 10:00–20:00 on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday, and 10:00–21:00 on Friday and Saturday.
The Guest of Honour of Bookfest 2026 is Bulgaria, with a programme focused on contemporary Bulgarian literature, cultural dialogue and events that bring Romanian readers closer to authors, books and stories from the country south of the Danube.
Exhibitors and Publishers at Bookfest Bucharest 2026

Frankfurter Buchmesse is also present at Bookfest Bucharest 2026 with a collective stand featuring titles from publishers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The presence of the Frankfurt Book Fair in Bucharest is connected to the preparations for Romania’s participation as Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair in 2028.
Six publishers from Germany, Austria and Switzerland are present in Bucharest for professional meetings, information exchanges and contacts with the Romanian publishing market. The “German Stories” programme runs throughout the fair, adding another international layer to this year’s edition.
As in previous editions, the public will have free access both within the salon and to all related events taking place throughout the Bookfest.
At the previous edition of the Bookfest International Book Fair, over 170 exhibitors were present, the five-day program comprising over 400 events, from launches and debates to film screenings and interactive events. The guest of honour of the 2025 edition was Portugal. At the international editions of previous years, the invited countries were: Moldova, Italy, Japan, Spain, Hungary, France, the German-speaking countries (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), Poland, the Czech Republic, Israel, Sweden and the United States of America.
The Bookfest Book Fair has local editions in Timisoara, Cluj-Napoca, Târgu Mureş, and Braşov, as well as an international edition in Chisinau.
How to get to Bookfest Bucharest 2026
Bookfest Bucharest 2026 takes place at Romexpo, Pavilion B2, one of the city’s main exhibition venues in the north.
The easiest way to reach Romexpo is by public transport, taxi or ride-sharing services. Visitors can use Bucharest’s public transport connections to Piața Presei Libere, Expoziției or the Romexpo area, then continue on foot to Pavilion B2.
If you are coming from central Bucharest, allow extra travel time during peak hours, especially in the afternoon and early evening. Romexpo is a major event venue, and traffic in the area can become congested when several events take place simultaneously.
