Christmas of the North – Romexpo Christmas Market

Christmas of the North is the big Christmas market hosted at Romexpo, in north Bucharest. For more than a month, the exhibition centre turns into a Christmas city with a covered ice rink, Ferris wheel, rides, concerts, workshops and plenty of food and gift stalls.

If you are staying near Herăstrău Park, Băneasa or on the way to the airport, Christmas of the North – Romexpo Christmas Market is one of the easiest large Christmas markets to visit and one of the few that stay open until early January.

Christmas of the North is built as Santa’s city in North Bucharest. It uses both outdoor and covered spaces at Romexpo to create a full winter park: decorated alleys, chalets, attractions, a roofed rink, and zones for shows and workshops.

The idea is simple: instead of a small fair, you get a full Christmas destination where you can spend an entire afternoon or evening, regardless of the weather.

    Dates, schedule and location

For the 2025–2026 season, Christmas of the North runs across the whole festive period.

    • Name: Christmas of the North – Romexpo Christmas Market (Crăciunul Nordului)
    • Location: Romexpo Exhibition Centre, north Bucharest
    • Season: 28 November 2025 – 4 January 2026
    • Entry: free access – you only pay for attractions, food and whatever you buy

This makes Romexpo one of the longest-running Christmas markets in Bucharest, perfect if you visit the city between Christmas and the first days of January.

What you will find at Christmas of the North

Romexpo Christmas Market is closer to a winter festival than a classic street fair.

    You can expect:

    • A covered ice rink, open throughout the season
    • A panoramic Ferris wheel, with views over the Christmas village and the Romexpo area
    • Lots of chalets and stands with Christmas decorations, gifts, sweets and hot food
    • Themed areas for workshops and interactive activities
    • A stage with concerts, shows and special evenings

The covered structures mean you can still enjoy the market on windy or rainy days, which is a big advantage compared with fully open-air markets.

    Santa’s city and children’s activities

Christmas of the North is designed as a family-friendly event, with a big focus on children:

    • A Santa area, where kids can meet Santa Claus on specific days, talk to him and take photos
    • Creative workshops – drawing, small crafts, Christmas decorations, held in dedicated spaces
    • Themed activities and simple games for different ages

The exact schedule of Santa’s visits and workshops is usually announced closer to opening, but you can count on children’s activities throughout afternoons and weekends.

    Food, sweets and winter drinks

Romexpo Christmas Market has a generous food and drink offer:

    • Traditional hot dishes – sausages, grilled meat, stews and soups
    • Street-food options – burgers, hot dogs, wraps and other quick snacks
    • Desserts and sweets – chimney cakes, waffles, doughnuts, gingerbread and cakes
    • Hot drinks – mulled wine, hot chocolate, tea and coffee specialities

Because the event runs into January, it’s also a good stop if you are at Romexpo for another fair or concert and want to warm up with something seasonal.

    Atmosphere at Romexpo Christmas Market

The atmosphere at Christmas in the North combines:

    • The scale of Romexpo, with wide alleys and large event spaces
    • Full Christmas lights, decorations and music
    • A mixed crowd of families, groups of friends and people arriving from other events in the complex

Weekday evenings tend to feel more relaxed, while weekends can get very busy, especially around the rink and food areas. In the evening, with the Ferris wheel lit and music from the stage, the whole complex feels like a dedicated Christmas town.

How to get to Christmas of the North – Romexpo Christmas Market

Romexpo is located in the north of Bucharest, near Piața Presei Libere and Herăstrău Park.

    By car or taxi

    • Romexpo has multiple parking areas, but they can fill up during weekend peaks and significant events.
    • If you come by taxi or ride-hailing, set the destination to “Romexpo”. From there, signs will guide you to the entrance of Christmas of the North.

    By public transport

The exhibition centre is well connected to the rest of the city by bus:

    • Buses from Piața Victoriei, Piața Romană, and other central points run to Piața Presei/Romexpo.
    • From your stop, it’s a short walk to the Christmas market entrance.

Routes and numbers can change, so it’s best to check the latest STB info before you go, using “Romexpo” as your reference.

Tips for visiting Christmas of the North

    • Plan enough time. Between skating, rides, food and workshops, it’s easy to spend a whole evening here.
    • Check the programme. Concerts and special events are usually announced gradually, so look up the schedule before you choose your day.
    • Use public transport if you can. It can save you time and stress with parking on busy weekends.
    • Visit after dark. The rink, Ferris wheel and lights all look much better in the evening.

For a full-scale Christmas and winter experience in north Bucharest, with a covered rink and a long operating season, Christmas of the North – Romexpo Christmas Market is one of the main places you should add to your list.
