Bucharest and several surrounding counties are currently experiencing the effects of Cyclone Barbara. This Mediterranean weather system has brought much-needed but intense rainfall and strong winds to the region this October.
Over the past days, weather authorities have issued heightened alerts for heavy precipitation expected to reach up to 140 litres per square meter, making this one of the most significant rainfall events in recent years. Alongside the precipitation, gusty winds of up to 70 km/h have been reported, leading officials to recommend caution while outdoors.
As safety is the top priority, schools in Bucharest have temporarily closed on October 7 and 8, and residents are encouraged to stay indoors during the peak storm activity. While the cyclone may disrupt some outdoor plans, the city’s vibrant indoor attractions remain open, offering cosy escapes from the weather.
The storm is expected to pass by October 9, bringing clearer skies and calmer conditions just in time to enjoy Bucharest’s stunning autumn highlights. Whether it’s exploring museums, enjoying a café, or visiting art galleries, the city offers plenty of warmth and culture beyond the storm.
Stay safe and keep an eye on weather updates while Cyclone Barbara passes, and soon Bucharest’s colourful fall charm will be ready to welcome visitors once again.
