Edo Sushi Restaurant – A Japanese Garden Experience in Bucharest

Edo Sushi takes its name from Edo, the former name of Tokyo and the period in which modern sushi began to develop. Located on Știrbei Vodă Street, close to Cișmigiu Gardens, Edo Sushi is designed as more than a restaurant: it is a quiet Japanese-inspired garden hidden in the centre of Bucharest.

The restaurant brings together sushi, Japanese ingredients, a peaceful garden, a koi pond, warm lighting and a design inspired by Japanese aesthetics. Its motto, Japanese Taste. Edo Spirit., reflects the idea behind the concept: authentic Japanese taste, interpreted in a warm, urban and elegant way for Bucharest.

Edo Sushi has also received Japanese Food Supporter recognition, awarded to restaurants outside Japan that use and promote Japanese food and ingredients.

A Complete Japanese Experience in Bucharest

Edo Sushi was created for guests who are looking for more than a meal. The experience combines food, atmosphere and design: carefully prepared sushi, sake, Japanese whisky, matcha-based drinks, cocktails and seasonal Japanese-inspired desserts.

The kitchen follows the spirit of Go mi – Go shoku – Go hō, a Japanese principle built around five tastes, five colours and five cooking methods. The result is a menu that balances technique, freshness, colour and presentation.

Guests can choose from classic rolls, special rolls, nigiri, gunkan, sashimi, temaki and sushi platters for sharing. Japanese soups, tempura, side dishes and warm main courses are also available. Signature dishes include Edo’s Kansai Roll, Black Mamba, Nigiri Mix, Ebi Tempura and house-made kimchi.

A Japanese Garden near Cișmigiu

Behind a discreet entrance on Știrbei Vodă Street, Edo Sushi opens into a sheltered garden with mature trees, natural stone, dark wood and a pond with Japanese koi fish. The garden is one of the restaurant’s defining features and gives guests the feeling of stepping away from the noise of the city.

The blackened wood used in the garden is inspired by Shou Sugi Ban, the traditional Japanese technique of preserving wood through controlled charring. In the evening, the garden is lit discreetly, creating a calm atmosphere for dinner, drinks or private gatherings.

During the warmer months, guests can dine outside, including at the tables beside the koi pond. Inside, the design continues with dark wood, simple lines and warm lighting, making the restaurant suitable for dinner as a couple, an evening with friends, a business meal or a private event.

Sushi, Matcha and Japanese-Inspired Drinks

Edo Sushi’s menu is built around sushi and Japanese flavours, but the experience goes beyond the plate. The drinks menu includes sake, Japanese whisky, cocktails with Japanese inspiration and matcha-based options.

The restaurant also develops seasonal Japanese experiences, including kakigori, the Japanese shaved ice dessert, as well as matcha desserts, sushi experiences and private events inspired by Japanese culture.
