The Union Of The Romanian Architects Building

Next to the Carol I University Foundation is another controversial building in Bucharest. It is about The Union Of The Romanian Architects Building.

The building dates from the end of the 19th century. During the communist regime, this was the headquarters of the 5th Directorate of the Communist SECURITATE, the secret police of the former regime.
During the Revolution of 1989, while over 80,000 people gathered here to listen to Nicolae Ceausescu's speech, many gunshots were fired and the building was set on fire. After that, a long time was left in ruins because everyone associated this building with the communist period.

Being a heritage building, it could not be demolished. Some clever minds from the Order of Architects came then with the idea of combining the past with the present and the future. Thus, the building, once a ruin, was rehabilitated and ranks 8th in the top of the most interesting buildings in the world. We hope that the top will remain relevant as long as possible!
