Human Chain: A hug for IOR Park on October 19

Do you care about the environment? Then, the human chain on Saturday, October 19, in the IOR Park, could be a destination, although unusual, for all those who see nature as something sacred that deserves protection and not as a good to be exploited.

The civic movement Here Was a Forest / Here Could be a Forest, with the support of GIC IOR Titan, GIC Pallady and Platforma de Mediu, organised on Saturday, October 19, at 15.00, a large protest aimed at drawing the attention of the authorities to the need to preserve the retroceded area of the IOR park as a green space, intended for a park, vital for the health of citizens.

With the tagline “A hug for IOR Park”, the event consists of creating a human chain around the relinquished area to convey that the land is significant to its citizens and that they will defend it against abuses such as illegal logging.

“On October 19, we will make a HUMAN CHAIN around the retroceded area of the IOR park to show once again that we want to send a call signal to the councillors and mayors taking over the new mandate in October: we request concrete measures to protect and protect the Park and real cooperation in the interest the park in the green spaces.” Official press release

In the last two years alone, 30 fires have occurred in the retroceded area of the IOR park. Almost 50,000 m2 burned cumulatively, and the last fire ignited 100 meters away from the police and firefighters who came to the scene to extinguish the fire and ascertain the fact. In the middle of the city, this area is being destroyed in front of everyone’s eyes by repeated fires; the few remaining living trees are quickly cut down.

For this reason, the environmental and civic associations invite all those who care about the IOR Park to join a human chain to attract the authorities’ attention regarding protecting the area’s environment.
