PlayCon Bucharest 2026 – Festival Board Games: May 23–24, National Library of Romania

PlayCon Bucharest brings a new geek and board games festival to the capital this weekend, turning the National Library of Romania into a meeting point for tabletop players, trading card game fans, anime followers, cosplayers, video game enthusiasts and local creators.

The event takes place on Saturday, May 23, and Sunday, May 24, 2026, between 10:00 and 20:00, and is designed as a large-scale convention for board games, TCGs, miniatures, Dungeons & Dragons, manga, anime, cosplay, video games, and geek culture.

For visitors spending the weekend in Bucharest, PlayCon adds a fresh, modern event to the city’s cultural calendar. It is not only for hardcore players or collectors but also for families, students, and curious visitors who want to discover Bucharest’s growing pop culture scene.

    What Is PlayCon Bucharest?

PlayCon is a new convention dedicated to gaming, fandom and creative communities. The event brings together several connected worlds under one roof: board games, trading card games, miniatures, Dungeons and Dragons, anime, manga, video games, cosplay, K-Pop, Romanian science fiction and fantasy, independent artists and local publishers.

Visitors can explore free-play and demo zones, discover new games, meet exhibitors and retailers, join or watch tournaments, attend workshops and browse an Artist Alley with illustrators, makers and independent creators.

The convention is organised by Play Con and Board Games Romania, with Asmodee România as the main partner.

When and Where Is PlayCon Bucharest 2026?

Ground Floor Map at PlayCon BUcharest

PlayCon Bucharest takes place at the National Library of Romania, one of the most visible modern cultural buildings in the city.

The venue is located on Bulevardul Unirii, close to Unirii Square, the Dâmbovița River and Bucharest’s Old Town. This makes it easy to include the festival in a wider city itinerary, especially for visitors staying in central Bucharest.

    Event details:

    Time: 10:00–20:00
Location: National Library of Romania, Bucharest

    What to Expect at PlayCon

PlayCon is built as an interactive festival, not just as a classic exhibition. Visitors can test board games, discover trading card games, explore miniatures, meet creators, watch competitions and take part in activities across different areas of the convention.

The event includes free-play and demo zones for people who want to try games before buying them, exhibitor and retailer stands with board games, cards, miniatures and prototypes, tournaments across multiple game types, workshops led by creators and community groups, a cosplay contest, a dedicated cosplay competition area, Artist Alley, K-Pop moments and special performances.

For game lovers, it is a chance to try new board games, discover TCG communities, meet retailers and play in tournaments. For anime and cosplay fans, it offers one of the city’s larger dedicated spaces for costumes, performances and fandom culture. For families and students, it is an affordable weekend activity with accessible programming and a central location.

Even for visitors who are not deeply connected to geek culture, PlayCon can be an interesting introduction to Bucharest’s younger creative communities.

If you are visiting Bucharest this weekend, PlayCon can be planned as a half-day stop. Arrive at the National Library between 10:00 and 20:00, explore the game zones, visit Artist Alley, check the cosplay programme and leave time for the exhibitor stands.
