    Christmas Market

    Winter Wonderland Christmas Market 2025

Winter Wonderland is one of the biggest Christmas markets in Bucharest for the 2025–2026 season. Organised by Sector 3 City Hall in Piața Alba Iulia, it takes over the entire square with lights, an ice rink, concerts, rides and food stalls.

In previous years, the event was known as the Laminor Christmas Market, hosted at Hala Laminor. The concept, size and style remain the same, but the Christmas market is now much easier to reach from the city centre and main hotel areas.

Winter Wonderland Christmas Market: Dates, schedule and location

For winter 2025–2026, Winter Wonderland in Bucharest is scheduled to run for more than a month, covering both Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

    • Location: Piața Alba Iulia, Sector 3, Bucharest
    • Season: end of November 2025 – beginning of January 2026
    • Entry: access to the Christmas market is free; you only pay for food, drinks, souvenirs and attractions

The market is planned as a daily event, with longer opening hours in the evenings and on weekends, when most concerts and shows take place. The New Year’s Eve programme turns Piața Alba Iulia into one of the main outdoor celebration spots in Bucharest.

If you’ve visited the Laminor Christmas Market in previous years, think of this edition as the same considerable Winter Wonderland experience, moved from Hala Laminor to a central square.

The Winter Wonderland Christmas market in Bucharest keeps the “festival-style” approach that made the Laminor edition famous: a mix of rides, food, live music and substantial visual impact.

Ice rink in the middle of the square

In the centre of Piața Alba Iulia, Winter Wonderland installs a generous ice rink where visitors can skate throughout the season.

You can rent skates on site and join one of the time slots, while Christmas music and lights create a proper winter-fair atmosphere. For families and groups of friends, the rink is usually the main reason to stay longer at the market.

    Rides, carousel and Santa’s House

Around the ice rink and central area, the Christmas market includes:

    • A classic carousel with lights and festive music
    • Several rides and attractions for children
    • A themed Santa’s House, where kids can meet Santa, take photos and leave their wish lists

This is the most popular part of Winter Wonderland for families with young children, especially in the late afternoon and early evening.

    Food stalls and Christmas shopping

Like any major Christmas market in Bucharest, Winter Wonderland is also about food and seasonal shopping. Expect:

    • Wooden chalets selling Christmas ornaments, decorations, candles and small gifts
    • Food stalls with Romanian traditional dishes and street food
    • Desserts, hot chocolate, sweets and, of course, mulled wine

If you’re staying in or near the centre, Winter Wonderland works very well as an evening plan: you can skate, grab dinner outdoors, enjoy a concert and walk back to your accommodation.

    Concerts and daily shows

Winter Wonderland is designed as a Christmas festival, not just a static market. Throughout the season, the stage in Piața Alba Iulia hosts:

    • Daily or frequent shows for children, theatre moments and carol performances
    • Weekend concerts with popular Romanian artists
    • An exceptional New Year’s Eve line-up, with live music, a countdown and a multimedia show

Names in the programme change each year, but the structure remains similar: carols and family-friendly moments early in the evening, followed by pop, rock and party music later on.

Why Winter Wonderland matters on the Bucharest Christmas map

Bucharest now has multiple big Christmas markets, spread across the city:

    • The main Bucharest Christmas Market, near Piața Constituției, in front of the Parliament
    • Downtown Christmas Market near University Square, in the downtown area
    • West Side Christmas Market in Drumul Taberei Park, in the west
    • and Winter Wonderland in Piața Alba Iulia, covering the eastern side of the centre

For travellers, Winter Wonderland is particularly convenient because it is close to Unirii, Decebal Boulevard and major hotel and apartment areas. It’s easy to combine it with a visit to another Christmas market on the same evening.

If you search for it online, you’ll still find plenty of references to the Laminor Christmas Market. Those refer to the previous location at Hala Laminor, but the current large-scale event is precisely this Winter Wonderland at Piața Alba Iulia.

Winter Wonderland, it’s usually easier to take the metro, bus or a taxi that drops you a short walk away.

Tips for visiting Winter Wonderland in Bucharest

    • Go on weekdays if you prefer fewer crowds; weekends and evenings before Christmas get very busy.
    • Dress warmly. Unlike the original Laminor edition in the partially covered hall, Winter Wonderland at Piața Alba Iulia is a fully open-air Christmas market, and winters in Bucharest can be cold.
    • Plan a full evening. Between the ice rink, rides, food, shows and concerts, you can easily spend several hours here.
    • Combine markets. If you’re in Bucharest for a short city break, you can visit Winter Wonderland and at least one other Christmas market on the same night.

For many locals, this is still “the Laminor Christmas Market”, even though the official name is now Winter Wonderland and the address has changed. For visitors, it’s simply one of the largest and most photogenic Christmas markets in Bucharest for the 2025–2026 season.

How to get to Winter Wonderland – Piața Alba Iulia

Piața Alba Iulia is located in Sector 3, between Unirii and Dristor. It’s a circular square where three important boulevards meet: Unirii, Decebal and Burebista.

    By metro

There is no metro station directly in the square, but you can use nearby stops and walk:

    • Piața Muncii or Dristor (lines M1 / M3), then a 10–15 minute walk or a short bus/trolleybus ride
    • Piața Unirii, then a walk along Bulevardul Unirii or a short ride by bus or taxi

    By bus or trolleybus

Several bus and trolleybus lines stop near Piața Alba Iulia, connecting it with the city centre and other districts. This is usually the most efficient way to reach the Christmas market during busy hours, when traffic restrictions might apply around the square.

    By car or taxi

During the Christmas season, especially in the evenings and on weekends, traffic around the square can be heavily congested and parking spots limited. If you’re visiting
