Arcul de Triumf Arena

Located in northern Bucharest, just a short walk from the city’s iconic Arch of Triumph, Arcul de Triumf Arena is one of the Romanian capital’s newest and most distinctive sports venues. Compact, modern and built close to the pitch, the stadium offers a very different experience from the much larger National Arena.

With a capacity of approximately 8,155 spectators, Arcul de Triumf Arena is particularly associated with Romanian rugby, but today it also hosts football matches and other major sporting events.

A Historic Home of Romanian Rugby

The connection between this part of Bucharest and rugby goes back much further than the current stadium.

The modern arena was built on the site of the former National Rugby Stadium, an important venue for Romanian rugby for decades. The new stadium was developed between 2018 and 2020 as part of Bucharest’s preparations for UEFA EURO 2020 and was designed to meet the requirements of a modern international sports venue.

The arena officially entered a new chapter on 3 July 2021, when Romania faced Argentina in an international rugby match.

Today, the Romanian national rugby team continues to play home matches here, maintaining the venue’s strong connection with the sport.

Football at Arcul de Triumf Arena

Although rugby remains central to the stadium’s identity, Arcul de Triumf has increasingly become part of Bucharest’s football scene as well.

Its relatively small capacity creates an intimate atmosphere, with spectators considerably closer to the action than in Bucharest’s larger stadiums. The arena has hosted domestic football as well as international fixtures, and in recent years it has become a regular home venue for the Romanian women’s national football team.

The stadium is also used for matches involving Bucharest clubs, making it one of the capital’s active sporting venues throughout the season.

A Stadium in One of Bucharest’s Most Attractive Areas

One of the things that makes Arcul de Triumf Arena unusual is its location.

The stadium sits on Bulevardul Mărăști 18–20, close to the Arch of Triumph and within easy reach of some of northern Bucharest’s best-known landmarks and green spaces.

Nearby you can find King Michael I Park, one of the largest parks in Bucharest, as well as the area around Kiseleff Boulevard and the Village Museum. This makes attending a match here easy to combine with a walk through one of the most pleasant parts of the city.

Unlike stadiums located on the outskirts, Arcul de Triumf feels very much integrated into Bucharest itself.

Watching a Match at Arcul de Triumf

If a rugby or football match takes place during your stay in Bucharest, Arcul de Triumf is one of the city's more interesting venues to experience live sport.

Its compact dimensions are part of its appeal. More than 8,000 seats may sound modest compared with major European football arenas, but that smaller scale brings the crowd closer to the field and can create an intense atmosphere when the stadium is full.

For rugby supporters in particular, this is one of the essential sporting addresses in Bucharest – the modern home of a tradition that has been associated with this part of the city for generations.

Before visiting, check the official competition or ticketing platform for the specific match, as access and ticket arrangements depend on the event.
