Pedestrian weekends are back in Bucharest: “Open streets – Bucharest, Urban Promenade” – full schedule.
Open Streets Bucharest | Children’s Day Weekend on Calea Victoriei

Open Streets Bucharest continues on Calea Victoriei with a special weekend programme dedicated to children and families. The city’s central pedestrian route becomes a space for workshops, theatre, music, parades, educational activities and outdoor discoveries, offering young visitors several ways to enjoy the city during the Children’s Day weekend.
Children can take part in interactive and educational workshops, from sand painting, kite colouring, creative recycling, balloon modelling, improvisation and fun science experiments to activities dedicated to the world of reptiles, supported by Reptiland. The programme also includes a first-aid and emergency-response workshop organised by the “Dealul Spirii” Bucharest-Ilfov Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, where children can learn essential safety rules in a practical and accessible way.
The weekend also brings creative activities inspired by Transylvanian Saxon traditions, including Saxon-style wood painting, tote bag painting, stone painting and wooden bookmark painting. These are connected to Haferland Week Festival, which will take place in ten Saxon villages in Transylvania at the beginning of August. Visitors will also find a photo corner, the Creative Hub for Juniors powered by Fieldstar, and the guided tour “The Built City and the Lost City”, focused on lesser-known stories of Bucharest.
The festive atmosphere on Calea Victoriei will include parades and itinerant moments with characters loved by children, including Donald and Daisy, Lilo and Stitch and Sonic. Ion Creangă Theatre will present the Fairytale Characters Parade, while the Jugendblaskapelle Kronstadt Parade will bring the spirit of Haferland Week Festival to Open Streets Bucharest.
The weekend also includes magic moments by Magitot, puppet performances, choir recitals from the Cantus Mundi National Programme and the children’s musical show “A Musical Journey into the World of Tzitzi-Poc”.
In the Kretzulescu Park area, visitors can also discover “Antebelum la Palat”, an exhibition organised by Retromobil Club România. The exhibition brings a selection of pre-war cars to Calea Victoriei and adds a heritage stop to the Children’s Day edition of Open Streets Bucharest.

ARTISTIC PROGRAM “OPEN STREETS – BUCHAREST” 2025 – MAY 29 – JUNE 1, 2025

Bucharest becomes, on the weekend of May 31st – June 1st, a massive playground for children and families. On the occasion of International Children’s Day, Bucharest proposes a weekend filled with outdoor events: shows for children, sports activities, creative workshops, exhibitions, and meetings with beloved characters, all designed to encourage play, curiosity, and artistic expression.
Calea Victoriei – the boulevard of childhood: workshops and shows for the little ones
On May 31st, children are invited to create their textile dolls at the workshop coordinated by Brândușa Oancă, in Piața Revoluției. In the evening, sewing and embroidery workshops are also scheduled here, open to the general public. In front of the Museum of Art Collections, visitors can watch live painting demonstrations, and on the Esplanade of the Military Circle, a contemporary dance workshop coordinated by Ștefan Lupu, from the Small Theater, is taking place.
Street show and open-air dance
In the Kretzulescu Church area, the Țăndărică Animation Theater brings a visual show – “Freestyle Puppetry”, and at the CEC Palace, the evening ends with a dance show by the “Challenge Arts” Dance School. Those passionate about cars can admire a selection of pre-war vehicles in the exhibition organised by Retromobil Club Romania, on Strada Dem. I. Dobrescu and Strada Ion Câmpineanu.
Sunday, between play, dance and theater
On Children’s Day, June 1, Calea Victoriei is filled with characters from “Paw Patrol”, balloons and good cheer brought by the Disney Club. Romanian Game Developers Association proposes interactive games inspired by the digital universe, and children can watch the educational show “Cioful cel Viclean”. Greek Dance Romania brings traditional dances, and the characters Tzitzi and Poc offer an energetic show-workshop. The day ends with a new animation performance signed by the Țăndărică Theatre.
Bârcă Street – play, music and dance in Sector 5
Also in sector 5, on Bârcă Street, the “Open Streets” program prepared by PROEDUS is designed especially for children. During the two days, between 10:00 and 20:00, the area becomes a space dedicated to movement and creativity, featuring sports activities such as mini-basketball, ping-pong, football, team games, and large-scale board games.
On Saturday, children can embark on a “Musical Journey” with the Ion Creangă Theater, and the afternoon brings popular and light music concerts, portraits made on the spot and a dance performance performed by students of the Bucharest Art School. On Sunday, the program continues with a theater games workshop branded Teatrul Mic and with the same artistic energy offered by the Art School.
“Abracadabra – Secrets of Magic” at 1UNIFEST (IOR Park) and at Hanul Gabroveni
On June 1, magic also moves to Alexandru Ioan Cuza Park (IOR), where ARCUB participates in the 1UNIFEST festival with an interactive area dedicated to the exhibition “Abracadabra – Secrets of Magic”. The little ones will be able to step into the shoes of real magicians, testing one of the funniest attractions in the exhibition – “The Head Without a Body” – exhibited for the first time outside the space at Hanul Gabroveni.
The exhibition “Abracadabra – the secrets of magic” – which includes over 20 interactive attractions and a live magic show – can be visited in the Old Town of the Capital, at ARCUB-Hanul Gabroveni. Until June 19, all visitors benefit from a 50% discount on all ticket categories. The exhibition is open from Friday to Sunday.
ARTISTIC PROGRAM “OPEN STREETS – BUCHAREST” 2025 – MAY 23-25, 2025

On May 24 and 25, “Open Streets” returns to Calea Victoriei and to Sector 1 of the Capital, on Ștefan Burileanu Street, for a new weekend full of events. The artistic program on Calea Victoriei will take place only on Saturday and includes Greek dances, skateboarding demonstrations, live painting, caricatures and vintage vehicles.
Traditional dances and urban rhythms, in the middle of the Capital
One of the most anticipated moments of the weekend takes place in the area of the National Museum of History of Romania: Greek Dance Romania brings energetic performances to Calea Victoriei, on Saturday, between 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM. The community spirit and the joy of movement will once again animate the city center.
Skateboarding demonstrations and workshops
On Saturday, the Kretzulescu Park area becomes a playground for skateboarding enthusiasts – with spectacular demonstrations and workshops for children and teenagers, supported by the Dolce Skateboards team.
History on wheels: vintage cars and special vehicles in the city center
On Saturday, between Strada Dem. I. Dobrescu and Strada Ion Câmpineanu, the Retromobil Club Romania Association brings a unique exhibition of historic vehicles – from ambulances and fire engines to military vehicles from the 1950s–1990s –, offering visitors the opportunity to travel back in time, right on one of the city’s busiest thoroughfares.
Visual artists in action and humorous portraits
In front of the Museum of Art Collections, visitors can admire live creations by members of the Association of Fine Artists of Bucharest, and caricaturist Vasile Catrina will offer comic portraits on Saturday, between 1:00 PM and 8:00 PM.
Events in Sector 1
On May 24 and 25, General Ștefan Burileanu Street (between Nicolae Caranfil Blvd. and Alexandru Șerbănescu Street) becomes an active space for play, sports and urban culture, with a program dedicated to the whole family, coordinated by PROEDUS. Mini-tournaments of basketball, ping-pong, “subsoccer” football and large-scale games – giant checkers, giant dominoes or ring toss – create a friendly and energetic space. The program on Ștefan Burileanu Street also brings together a series of cultural interventions signed by important Bucharest institutions. The Odeon Theatre offers the Odeon Theatre Fountain scenographic installation, visible throughout the day, and the Țăndărică Animation Theatre brings the shows “Goat with Three Goats” and “Puss in Boots” for the little ones. The Ion Creangă Theatre completes the fairytale atmosphere with the beloved show “The Three Little Pigs”, and the Small Theatre offers an interactive theatrical games workshop.
The program is completed by the Romanian Gendarmerie, which organizes weaponry presentations and career promotion activities, Art on Wall, with portrait art sessions, and the Bucharest Art School, which brings popular and light music concerts to the streets, as well as modern and contemporary dance performances. At the same time, the national campaign “Welcome from Romania” launched by the Sector 1 City Hall brings a floating market with fresh products from local producers, promoting the authentic Romanian taste. All these initiatives contribute to transforming the city into a meeting place between art, sports, education and community.
ARTISTIC PROGRAM “OPEN STREETS – BUCHAREST” 2025 – WEEKEND #2 | MAY 10-11, 2025

On May 10 and 11, Calea Victoriei will once again transform into a lively cultural route: magic and animation shows, origami workshops, vintage cars and an Irina Sârbu concert are some of the landmarks that will animate the city centre during the event “Open Streets Bucharest – Urban Promenade”.
Vintage cars and creative workshops in Revolution Square
On Saturday, May 10, starting at 2:00 p.m., the public is invited to the “Made in Romania” exhibition, organized by the Retromobil Club Romania Association – a spectacular selection of civilian vehicles produced between 1957 and 1990, which bring to the forefront the refinement and inventiveness of the Romanian automotive industry.
Festival of Lights: the city takes shape in the light of pedestrian lanterns
Also on Saturday, between 5:00 PM and 9:00 PM, the pedestrian route will be illuminated between the National Museum of Art of Romania and the National Military Circle, where the National Organisation of the Scouts of Romania is organising the Festival of Lights. The boulevard’s curbs will be illuminated by hundreds of pedestrian lanterns, symbolising discovery and creativity. The public of all ages is invited to participate in educational and creative outdoor workshops in a friendly and participatory atmosphere.
Urban magic, workshops and animation theatre
On Sunday, May 11, magic and theatre will replace traffic. From 6:00 PM, the Romanian Dramaturgs’ Theatre will perform a magic show on the sidewalk at the National Museum of Art of Romania, a show with humour and illusion for the whole family.
In parallel, in the Kretzulescu Church area, the public is expected to attend a special visual show: “Freestyle Puppetry”, a production of the Țăndărică Animation Theatre, which reinterprets puppet theatre in a contemporary and interactive way. Between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM, children are invited to two creative workshops: a spring workshop coordinated by artist Camelia Andriță and an origami workshop led by Ștefan Hotnog.
Evening finale in live chords
The weekend ends on a refined note, with Irina Sârbu’s concert scheduled for Sunday, May 11, at 6:00 PM, on the esplanade of the National Military Circle. The artist brings to the fore a warm and eclectic repertoire, perfect for the end of a day spent in the city.
Art, heritage and contemporary creation
The event program is completed by the permanent thematic exhibitions hosted in the garden and interior of the Filipescu-Cesianu House, offered by the Bucharest Municipality Museum: from visual fragments of recent history in “Life Diary. Young Talents 2025” to anthropological incursions through the “Museum of Ages” or evocations of the frescoes of the Văcărești Monastery, which disappeared four decades ago.

The Capital’s largest outdoor project, “Open Streets, Bucharest – Urban Promenade” #4, ends spectacularly this weekend with the 8th edition of Spotlight – the International Festival of Light, an event organized by the Capital’s City Hall, through ARCUB – the Center Cultural of the Municipality of Bucharest. Between October 11-13, video mapping shows, large-scale multimedia installations and interactive experiences on Calea Victoriei and at ARCUB – Hanul Gabroveni will transform the urban space into a real outdoor scene between 19:00 and 23:00: 00.
The Spotlight #8 route begins at ARCUB – Hanul Gabroveni with the surrealist projection Delir Controlat – Tudor Banuș by Caltech creatives – The Art Behind Technology, which marks the opening of the artist’s retrospective exhibition. Mihai Popescu’s Angel Radios multi-sensory installation, located at the National Military Circle, will be followed by the Urban Mosaic video mapping on the facade of the Odeon Theatre, a dynamic tableau made by MotionLab that reflects the alert rhythm of the city.
The magic of light at Spotlight #8 then includes the Palace of Telephones with the projection and interactive installation Energy – Power up your Future, made by Les Ateliers Nomad, where the participants will become co-creators of a unique artistic moment: the walls of the building will be covered by vegetation through the energy produced of pedalling some futuristic bikes. At the same time, Kaustik proposes a moment of reflection on global warming through the Sunny Side Up installation at the Novotel Hotel, oversized eggs whose yolk becomes a dome that imitates the boundless power of the sun.
In front of the Music Store, the Discoball installation signed by 360 Revolution transforms the buildings on Calea Victoriei into a kaleidoscope of reflections. Passers-by are invited to a real party to the exciting rhythms of the music mixed live by the DJs of Radio Europa FM and Virgin Radio Romania.
In Revolution Square, the artist Émilien Guesnard transforms the monumental Iuliu Maniu Ensemble into a space of reconnection with the ascription installation, and the Renaissance Memorial becomes a prayer raised to the sky through the Silent Prayer installation by those from 360 Revolution.
The new media show continues with a dialogue between past and present on the facade of the Central University Library, where the video mapping Era Fusion: Artistic Dialogues of Old and New created by Vali Chincișan and Adistu explores the tension and beauty of the meeting between old and new, transforming classical architecture into a continuous flow of digital metamorphoses.
At the National Art Museum of Romania, the audiovisual installation Echo by the artist Julien Menzel poetically reinterprets the space. In George Enescu Square, the same artist reveals his creation Phénix, an installation that is “reborn” before the viewers’ eyes, symbolizing the power of regeneration and hope.
The route of the 8th edition of Spotlight—the International Festival of Light culminates at the InterContinental Athénée Palace Bucharest Hotel, where Mindscape Studio introduces the public to the rhythm of the city with the video mapping Urban Pulse: The Flow of the City, energy impulses that envelop the building and reflect the continuous flow of urban life.
